TUNING ACCESSORIES - HIGH-FLOW FUEL PUMP
 
After a huge amount of testing and development of the Evo engine we have reached a point where the fuel delivery from the standard pump had become a problem. At 330+ bhp we were running out of fuel delivery. After testing many different pumps we have come up with a pump which is a direct physical replacement to the standard unit but crucially has more than twice the flow capacity at the very high fuel pressures the engine demands at high revs.
 
The graphs below show the standard pump versus our high-flow item plotted both against current draw and flow rate. You can see that even though our pump flows significantly more fuel it actually draws less current.

This new pump allows safer mapping and gives us the capacity for more power in the future. Whilst a standard car does not require this pump we would recommend it for any cars running more than 330bhp. However the standard pump is very marginal and with age and a partially block fuel filter we feel that the future safety of the engine could be compromised. The pump also comes with a new inlet fuel filter which has filter mesh which is 70% finer than the standard Mitsubishi nylon mesh.

HKS Super Sequential Blowoff Valves (SSQV) are dual stage pull type relief valves that by design do not leak under high boost conditions or under idle vacuum and is actuated by pressure alterations to ensure a quick primary and secondary valve response.

TUNING ACCESSORIES - BLITZ BLOW-OFF VALVE
 
Available for nearly all turbocharged Japanese sports cars, Blitz dump valves are supplied with a full fitting kit and interchangeable trumpets for different sounds. The main purpose of the dump valves is to improve the response of the turbo by quickly releasing the boost pressure before the turbo stalls. They are made from polished aluminium with a brass piston and a rubber diaphragm, meaning they can easily cope with boost pressures of over 2 bar.

The Aquamist System 1 water injection system is a method of reducing the intake charge temperature as well as slowing down the flame front within the cylinder. The effect of this is to effectively retard the timing.

BLITZ BOOST CONTROLLERS
 
We are currently offering two boost controllers from the Blitz range - the Dual SBC Spec-S and the Dual SBC Spec-R.
 
The Spec-S is the most cost effective boost controller available from Blitz. It features a single solenoid that diverts pressure away from the turbo actuator to achieve higher boost. This solenoid is linked to a smart control unit installed inside the car, which allows you to adjust the boost pressure manually. The control unit has four programmable channels, each of which can be programmed with an individual boost setting to suit driving conditions or styles. For example, if it's wet and you're struggling around town to get traction, then you can select a channel you've set up with low boost. Alternatively if you're taking part in a track day and want maximum speed, then you can select a channel with high boost for maximum power.

Another key feature of the SBC Spec-S is a programmable boost limiter, which when activated prevents possible engine damage caused by the turbo(s) over boosting. You also have the option to enter a boost warning level, when this level is reached the control unit will alert you by beeping and changing the LCD background colour to Red. The Spec-S is recommended up to 18 Psi.
 
The SBC Spec-R is very similar to the Spec-S, the main difference being the Spec-R has twin solenoids meaning it can control up to 2.5 bar (36 Psi) of boost. All the functions are the same as the Spec-S and the control unit is exactly the same size and shape. Both units are supplied with a fitting kit and installation diagrams.
 
 
 
 
  
      
    
 
 
BLITZ TURBO TIMERS
 
All turbo engines need to be run at idle for a time after driving under boost. This is because the turbo runs at around 900°C, and when the engine is switched off its oil supply is also stopped, meaning the bearings are not cooled and can quickly overheat. Thus the engine needs to be left at idle until the turbo has cooled down sufficiently for the bearings to survive.
 
The Blitz Full Auto Turbo Timer measures how hard the car has been driven, and automatically adjusts the time the engine will be left idling for until it is safe to switch off the engine, thus preventing expensive turbo damage and prolonging the life of the turbocharger. This is especially relevant for modified turbo engines which run at high temperatures.

ENGINE TUNING PARTS - HKS CAMSHAFTS
 
HKS high performance camshafts are CAD computer designed to optimize torque and horsepower over the widest possible powerband. All HKS camshafts are made from new billets of high nickel content iron alloy, not reground stock units, therefore equaling or exceeding the OE units they are designed to replace in terms of quality and workmanship. The camshafts are direct replacements and are designed to be compatible with the factory followers and valve springs.
 
The 264 profile offers substantial gains in power levels and a broad useable powerband throughout the RPM range with little compromised in driveability. The 272 profile offers greater increases in power levels, but is tailored for higher RPM range use and race oriented driving characteristics.
 
Increased performance from the HKS camshafts are achieved by widening the degree of opening of the valve, which increases power in the higher RPM range, and by increasing lift, which raises overall torque output. HKS also offers high performance valve spring sets for limited applications that can benefit from stiffer springs when using the "larger" profile HKS camshafts.

ENGINE TUNING PARTS - HKS UPRATED VALVE SPRING SET
 
HKS valve springs are the performance versions specifically designed to be used with HKS camshafts. As valve train dynamics change from the use of high performance cam profiles and with greater lift, stiffer springs are often needed to optimize valve movement.
 
When changing to a high lift cam, the stock springs often can not match the increased valve train movement, therefore HKS has specifically engineered valve springs that match the characteristics of HKS camshafts. A stringent shot peening and heat treatment process is applied to the HKS valve springs to provide durability and consistency in the spring rates over time.
 
Applications with high revving engines will especially benefit from the use of HKS valve springs, as the risk of valve-float is greatly reduced due to their specific design and construction.

ENGINE TUNING PARTS - HKS VERNIER CAMSHAFT PULLEYS
 
HKS Adjustable Cam Gears allow for fine tune adjustments to cam timing to maximize engine performance and tailor power characteristics for various driving conditions. 
 
Either with OEM or HKS Camshafts, adjustments can be made to tune an engine’s powerband to an optimum RPM range for a particular application. By using a Vernier scale, a valve timing adjustment tool that uses sub scale, a more accurate adjustment is possible because it provides the crank angle in 0.2° increments. 
 
HKS cam gears are constructed of anodized precision-machined aluminum plates and incorporate laser-etched indexes in 2° intervals. The full aluminum versions of the HKS Cam Gears are constructed completely of aluminum (except for the bolts), thereby reducing overall weight and resulting in decreased friction loss and greater precision timing. Precise valve timing can be adjusted and set within the range of ± 20° in 2° intervals by referring to the laser-etched degree indexes and the “A” (advance) and “R” (retard) directional etchings on the cam gear face.

Piper have just released a new ultra lightweight vernier pulley set for the Mitsubishi Evo featuring a totally new three spoke design. The vernier pulleys feature a true vernier adjustment which will allow accurate timing adjustment down to one tenth of a degree. The Piper Ultra Lightweight pulley set is ideal for use with Piper extra high lift cams.

ENGINE TUNING PARTS - HKS UPRATED HEAD GASKET (1.2mm)
 
HKS metal head gaskets are constructed from multiple layers of steel to ensure proper head to block sealing under the most demanding high performance conditions. In the construction of each HKS head gasket, a special metal which is extremely resistant to the severe levels of both heat and corrosion, that is attributed with high-horsepower and high-boost conditions, is used to ensure gasket integrity. Aside from the durable internal construction, all HKS head gaskets are also coated with a special fluorine rubber coating to provide the ultimate sealing.

Experience has shown that above 330 bhp it is wise to replace the big end bolts for higher rated items. These have a higher tensile strength and therefore will stretch less at high RPM.
 
These ARP bolts are the best available. This is a good additional safety measure for non standard cars. Available for EVO's V to XI.
 
 
 
  
      
    
 
 
CLUTCHES - AP RACING
 
Two high-performance AP Racing clutch kits are available for the EVO - the Organic Clutch Kit and the 4-Paddle Clutch Kit.
 
The Organic clutch kit has increased spring clamp pressure compared to a standard clutch, the design of the clutch diaphragm cover means that the greater pressure does not translate into a heavier clutch pedal. The clutch plate is a full circle organic plate and is not harsh like performance clutches, making it very suitable for everyday road use. A superb road clutch which is not heavy and will handle 350 bhp.
 
The 4-Paddle clutch kit is designed for heavy duty and 'off road' applications the sprung centre cerametallic driven plate nevertheless affords some protection against drive line shocks. A rigid adaptor plate without cushion segments is used. The driven plate incorporates cerametallic pads which are designed to withstand the high temperatures associated with high energy input competition applications.
 
Please note; release bearing is NOT included with either kit.

CLUTCHES - EXEDY TWIN-PLATE CLUTCH KIT
 
The twin plate clutch developed for motor sport is designed for higher torque, while at the same time featuring a reasonably light touch on the pedal control. Our twin plate clutch boasts the substantial torque capacity and sensitive response called for in high-performance sports cars. In addition, for drivers looking for an even higher torque, specialised hard settings are available. Two separate settings allow the driver to select the type that matches his or her individual preference.
 
The twin plate clutch used in Daikin clutches manufactured by EXEDY Corporation are available in both push and pull type models. Because the pull type completely eliminates the need for a conversion kit for the release system, expenses can be kept to a minimum and the clutch can be installed without requiring any further modifications.
